ED BARTLE

 

  

 

For the past 17 years, Ed worked as a vice-president of sales in the plumbing manufacturing industry. Unfortunately, he is no longer able to work due to his kidney disease. However, he is a great help to me at home, as I work full time. 

 

Ed absolutely loves music--especially Frank Sinatra and big band music. He enjoys digitizing music from his old records to the computer. He enjoys other computer activities as well and is an avid fan of the Philadelphia Phillies. The two of us enjoy traveling together, although that is now difficult because we must pre-arrange for Ed to have dialysis at an out-of-town facility. Recently, we did have the opportunity to take a wonderful trip: We traveled to Ed's former high school in Florida, where he was inducted into their athletic hall of farme for his achievements in wrestling, football, and track. 

 

Ed suffers from end stage renal disease due to complications of diabetes. He has been on dialysis since August, 2011, and on the transplant waiting list since January, 2012. Because there are so many advantages to a living-donor transplant (as opposed to a deceased-donor transplant) and because the average wait for a deceased-donor kidney in our area is 5-7 years, we are searching for a living donor.  

 

Our center, Penn Transplant Institute, at the University of Pennsylvania, participates in paired donation, so a person of any blood type can potentially donate to Ed.
