Good News! Kappy received a kidney from a deceased donor on December 25, 2014. It was a very sad day for the donor's family, indeed. We hope they have been able to find comfort in knowing that the loss of their loved allowed another to live...and that is the greatest gift one can give.

Hello,

My name is Kappy. I’m 49 years old and live with my husband, Dale, in Port Orchard, Washington. We have a 24-year-old daughter, Kaitlin. When I'm not on dialysis, I spend my time designing and landscaping a 10-acre plot of land called Wisteria Reception and Wedding Gardens. I don’t know where I get the strength, but the garden is what keeps me going. 

I was born with a kidney condition called Distal Renal Tubular Acidosis (RTA). Normally, the kidneys remove acids from the blood and send it into the urine. RTA occurs when the kidneys don't remove the acid properly, causing it to build up in the bloodstream.

I’ve had massive kidney stones and chronic urinary infections most of my life. Infections from the kidney stones have damaged my kidneys. I’ve been on dialysis for 3 years while I wait for a kidney transplant. 

I have type A blood, but because my transplant center, the University of Washington has a paired kidney exchange program, a person of any blood type can donate.
