What's the next step?

Usually, the first step is to complete a health history form, available from your potential recipient's transplant center. Contact the center directly, or ask your potential recipient for infomation.

Some transplant centers allow you to submit a health history by telephone. Typically, after a nurse reviews your health history, the center will notify you to start preliminary testing (blood draw, urine collection, and blood pressure readings). For more information on both preliminary testing and the full evaluation, see Donor Testing.

Nothing Tops It: "I receive the best present in the world each and every day when my son comes down the stairs, healthy and enegetic. At the end of each day, I have received a far greater gift than I gave," says Dennis Bonetti, of donating a kidney to his son, Matthew).
